Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim Arrives in Nairobi for Official Visit to Strengthen Malaysia-Kenya Ties

NAIROBI, KENYA November, 23  2025 – Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim touched down in Nairobi tonight, marking the final leg of an intensive week-long African diplomatic mission under the MADANI Diplomacy framework.

The Prime Minister was warmly received at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by senior Kenyan officials, ahead of a packed two-day official visit at the invitation of President Dr. William Samoei Ruto.

“Alhamdulillah, we have safely arrived in Nairobi, Republic of Kenya, to fulfil the official invitation of President Dr. William Samoei Ruto,” Anwar said in a statement shortly after landing. “This visit opens vital space to reinforce the longstanding friendship between our nations while exploring new investment opportunities and strategic cooperation that will deliver real benefits to the peoples of both Malaysia and Kenya.”

The programme, which begins tomorrow, includes a one-on-one meeting and delegation-level talks with President Ruto at State House, the signing of several memoranda of understanding, and a Malaysia-Kenya Business Forum co-chaired by both leaders.

Key areas expected to dominate discussions include:
– Enhanced trade and investment, particularly in digital economy, halal products, and Islamic finance
– Renewable energy and green technology collaboration
– Palm oil and agriculture value-chain partnerships
– Education and technical training exchanges
– Defence and security cooperation

Anwar expressed optimism that the Nairobi engagements would catalyse deeper, more meaningful ties centred on shared prosperity.

“I hold high hopes that this series of meetings will serve as a catalyst for closer, more substantive relations firmly rooted in the wellbeing of our citizens,” he added.

The visit comes immediately after Malaysia’s high-profile participation at the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, where Anwar emerged as one of the most vocal Global South leaders on Gaza, climate justice, and equitable economic governance.

With Kenya assuming the chairmanship of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat’s Council of Ministers in 2026, both sides are also expected to explore how Malaysia – as incoming ASEAN Chair 2025 – can support stronger Africa-ASEAN economic linkages.

The Prime Minister concluded his arrival message with a prayer for blessings on the Malaysian delegation: “May all our affairs here be eased and blessed by Allah SWT. Insya-Allah.”

Official ceremonies begin tomorrow morning, with a full state welcome at State House followed by bilateral talks and the signing of agreements.
