PH Merotai Candidate Proposes Mobile Complaint Van, Promises Solar Street Lights to Boost Village Safety

TAWAU. SABAH, MALAYSIA November 24, 2025 – Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Merotai state seat (DUN Merotai), Datuk Ruji Ubi, today unveiled one of the key pledges in his manifesto: the establishment of a mobile van that will serve as a roving complaint office for every village in the constituency.

The announcement was made during a small-group ceramah (political talk) in Kampung Kijang this afternoon, where he interacted directly with local residents.

“This mobile van will act as a moving complaint office that comes straight to the villages. Residents no longer need to travel far to the town or office just to lodge complaints. Every issue will be collected in a more organised manner and resolved quickly,” explained Datuk Ruji, a former Secretary-General of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

During the open discussion, villagers repeatedly raised concerns about safety at night due to insufficient street lighting. They urged the installation of solar-powered lights throughout the village to reduce crime and accidents.

Responding to the request, Datuk Ruji stressed that numerous government initiatives — including solar street-light programmes — are already available, but they require a proactive and knowledgeable elected representative to manage applications and ensure allocations reach the villages that need them most.

“There are many existing government initiatives, but they need a representative who truly understands the process — someone who knows how to apply, coordinate, and make sure our villages are not left behind. Insha Allah, this will be one of my main focuses if I am entrusted to lead Merotai,” he affirmed.

Also present at the event were local Pakatan Harapan supporters and residents from several nearby villages.

The Merotai state constituency, which covers a number of rural and interior villages in the Tawau district, frequently faces basic infrastructure challenges. Pledges such as these are seen as likely to capture voters’ attention ahead of the upcoming Sabah state election, widely expected in the near future.
