ADDIS ABABA, Nov 19, 2025 ‘ Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim arrived in Addis Ababa on Wednesday, marking the start of a three-day official visit to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia under the MADANI Diplomacy mission.
The visit, at the invitation of Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali, serves as a reciprocal engagement following Dr. Abiy’s official visit to Malaysia last year.
In a statement upon arrival, Prime Minister Anwar described the trip as a reflection of both nations’ commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, which this year celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations built on genuine friendship, mutual trust, and respect.
“Malaysia regards Ethiopia as a key strategic partner in Africa and is committed to expanding and deepening cooperation in various fields that will deliver direct benefits to the peoples of both countries,” the Prime Minister said.
He expressed confidence that the visit would open a new, more dynamic chapter in Malaysia–Ethiopia relations, yielding concrete outcomes and elevating the partnership to a higher, more competitive, and meaningful level.
During the visit, the Malaysian delegation is expected to hold high-level discussions with Ethiopian leaders on enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, education, and people-to-people ties.
“Arrived in Addis Ababa to reinforce Malaysia–Ethiopia relations and chart new pathways for deeper strategic cooperation,” Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim posted shortly after landing.
The visit underscores Malaysia’s continued efforts to strengthen ties with African nations as part of its broader MADANI foreign policy framework.
