PAPAR, SABAH, MALAYSIA November 23, 2025 – Papar Member of Parliament, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, welcomed the Blood Donation Campaign organised by the Papar Hakka Youth Association, which took place on Sunday morning at the Hakka Association Office in Papar.
In a statement posted on his social media, Armizan, who is also the Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, emphasised the importance of such campaigns in addressing the national blood shortage.
According to data from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH), the country requires between 2,000 and 2,200 bags of blood daily — equivalent to more than 730,000 bags annually — to meet the needs of treatment and emergencies in hospitals nationwide.
However, currently only 2.3% of Malaysia’s population are regular blood donors, which is far below the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommendation of at least 5%.
“For this reason, initiatives like today’s campaign are extremely important and should be strengthened and conducted regularly to ensure the nation’s blood supply, especially in Papar, remains sufficient,” Armizan stressed.
He also extended congratulations and gratitude to the Papar Hakka Youth Association for their noble commitment in organising the programme, as well as appreciation to all Papar residents who turned up and donated blood for the common good.
This blood donation campaign is one of the ongoing efforts by the Hakka community in Papar to contribute to public health needs while raising awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donation.
