Anwar Ibrahim Tours Perodua Operations in Rawang, Welcomes Launch of Company’s First EV Model

RAWANG, SELANGOR, MALAYSIA Nov 11, 2025  –Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim today toured the operations of Perodua’s factory in Sungai Choh, Rawang, Selangor, where he met with the workforce that forms the backbone of this national automotive company’s success, often dubbed the “King of the Road.”

During the visit, Anwar also attended a special briefing on Perodua’s current performance and plans for the launch of the company’s first electric vehicle (EV) model, expected to be introduced in the near future. This initiative aligns with the spirit of Malaysia MADANI, which emphasizes progress based on sustainable values, inclusivity, and public well-being.

In his statement, Anwar noted that Perodua’s EV development not only strengthens the nation’s automotive industry capabilities but also reflects a firm commitment to green technology, job creation for local people, and offering affordable products with high social impact.

“Today, I had the opportunity to tour the operations and meet the workforce that is the backbone of Perodua’s or ‘King of the Road’s’ success in Sungai Choh, Rawang, Selangor. During the briefing session, I was also given an explanation on current performance and plans for the launch of Perodua’s first electric vehicle (EV) model, which will be introduced soon,” said Anwar.

He added that these efforts demonstrate how economic progress and humanitarian values can move hand in hand, where innovation and environmental responsibility are not opposing choices but two sides of a single aspiration in the MADANI nation that champions a green and competitive economy.

“I am confident that Perodua will continue to be a key catalyst in strengthening the national automotive ecosystem and driving Malaysia towards a future of mobility that is more sustainable, innovative, and people-centric,” Anwar emphasized.

Anwar also expressed deep appreciation to all Perodua staff for their dedication. “My salutes to all Perodua employees who are the pulse behind this company’s success, working with full dedication to ensure every vehicle produced becomes a national pride. May Perodua continue to thrive and remain the top choice vehicle brand for Malaysians,” he added.

Anwar’s visit to the Perodua factory comes at a time when the national automotive industry is increasingly focusing on electric vehicles, in line with the government’s goals to reduce carbon emissions and promote renewable energy by 2030. The launch of Perodua’s first EV is expected to be a major catalyst, aiming to position the company as a leader in the affordable EV segment in the region.

Perodua’s senior officials welcomed the visit as confirmation of the government’s commitment to the local industry, while anticipating it will accelerate R&D efforts and youth employment absorption in the green technology sector. Residents and industry experts view this initiative as a strategic step to position Malaysia as a sustainable automotive hub in Southeast Asia.
